In 2014, a student named Ethan picked up a saxophone for the first time in a Midori & Friends’ music class at his elementary school in Queens. A year and half later on May 20, 2015, Midori & Friends presented CityMusic, a concert to celebrate our young, new musicians, where Ethan performed on one of NYC’s most prestigious stages. In front of a packed house at Jazz at Lincoln Center, Ethan played a duet with jazz legend Jon Faddis. In his own words, Ethan, a fifth grader from Queens, describes his journey from picking up the saxophone for the first time to appearing on stage with Paquito D’Rivera in CityMusic, Midori & Friends debut at Jazz at Lincoln Center.

Building a gigantic gingerbread village is more than just playing with candy and sneaking licks of icing.
That’s the lesson youngsters at Public School 160 in Queens learned Thursday from baking master Jon Lovitch, who crafted the Guinness World Record-breaking Gingerbread Lane at the New York Hall of Science.
