PBL Institute 10 Staff Members MSAP District 28 STEM Staff conducted a 2-­‐day institute where teachers learned the basics of developing and reviewing themed PBL units of study.

Curriculum Mapping

15 Teachers

Collaborative planning time is given to teacher teams to meet to develop, create plan themed curriculum overview maps for their respective grades.

Families attended this event where STEM activities were implemented giving our community an inside glimpse to all of our new programs.

Family Science Night Over 100 Families
Guitar Club 14 Students Students were given their individual guitars and Mr. Michael Engel conducts classes every Monday.
Technology Club 6 Students Students work with the technology specialist on a variety of programs. They use document cameras, iPads and many innovative technological tools.
NYC Dancing Classroom 6 Classes Dancing Classrooms Residency-­‐ Teaching Artists model strategies for integrating arts into classroom instruction. Competitive Ballroom for grades 4 and 5 students culminates with a final performance as well as a ballroom competition.
Turtle Bay Music School (TBMS) 5 Classes Grade 2 students work with renowned Dancer / Choreographer Quenia Ribeiro and Percussionist Arei Sekiguchi to discover the unique music and dance of Brazil. Quenia Professional dance Troupe will perform alongside our students for a culminating assembly

Smartworks Moving Image

Gustavo Asto, Program Coordinator and Students produce a video that informs and prepares students for the school year establishing high expectations, building excitement about goals set. They showcase their work at a world premiere in the school auditorium.

Teachers will meet with MSAP personnel on developing, reviewing, revising themed PBL units to ensure that they infused the art theme within it to ensure that they met the STEAM criteria. Workshops will be on 3 consecutive Mondays and a Tuesday for 2 hours.

Special Education teachers participated in 4, 1/2 day sessions and 10 additional staff members will be trained in this developmental writing program.

A core of teachers, administrators, TA and Parent Coordinator traveled to Hartford Connecticut where they were engaged with other magnet schools around the country in various staff development activities. While at Hartford, they visited many Magnet campuses and saw observed best practices involving innovative instruction, technology & theme integration in magnet education.

Partners and MRT 100 Staff Members Chancellor PD Day – a full day of themed PD to provide strategies for integrating the arts into curriculum and instruction
LEGO We Do Robotics and Story Telling 10 Staff Grades K-­‐1 The LEGO Education Academy Program examines play-­‐based learning opportunities that meet early years’ targets and stimulate children’s creativity using LEGO Education resources. Schemes of work are Information and Control Technology (ICT) and design & technology centered, but also covers language and literacy and a range of other subjects.

MRT, Network Admin 10-­‐15 Teachers Thinking Maps Training: Teachers will be involved in a summer institute that will train them in the use of using thinking maps to support students writing.
Family Art Night 100 or more families Teachers, parents and students will engage in an all art activity night. Residencies such as Story Pirates, Smartworks and Materials for the art will also land their talent
Teacher Team Meetings 10-­‐18 Staff Members Teacher Teams meet 3x a month to receive PD in the following areas: creation of themed curriculum maps and PBL Units of Study and strategies for integrating the arts and STEM into classroom instruction.
